How does a Graphics Tablet work?
The Tablet
How does the tablet work? The tablet is used for drawing and tracing. To move the cursor it needs to touch a point on the surface of the tablet with a stylus. The surface has special areas, with special functions. These special functions could be called 'Keys' aswell. When an area is tapped the computer opens a menu on the display to control the software, it is connected to.
The Stylus or Puck
The stylus is an electronic pen used on a lot of touch screen devices. Like all of touch screen devices, the device needs to use touch input to work. So touch with stylus or puck is the only touch inputs usable in a graphics tablet. A lot of tablets use a tablet cursor or puck. A puck is an alternative to a stylus but looks like a normal computer mouse(for reference look to the picture to the right).
From Graphics Tablet to Computer
Graphics tablets come mostly wired but some use Bluetooth technology. Depends on the company you get the software that you would use the start using the tablet. Some most recognised programs are Adobe Illustrator, Corel's Painter and Autodesk’s AutoCAD.
The Pressure-Sensitive Mechanism
This makes the stylus feel like a real pen and gives the user more creativity. How this works? By pressing harder on the stylus your 'pen' will produce a thicker and more darker line, than when you would draw softly.
